Chris Crane Biography
Christopher A. Crane
President and Chief Executive Officer
San Diego, CA 92102
Chris Crane is a YPOer and Half/Timer who took his business experience to running Christian ministries. Chris is CEO of Edify Inc, a humanitarian organization that makes microfinance loans to Christian schools educating impoverished children in Africa. These sustainable schools charge $3-$12 (R20-R80) per month tuition and repay their loans which are then loaned to other schools.
Chris served as President/CEO of Opportunity International, the world’s largest Christian microfinance organization, from 2002-2009. Opportunity has 10,600 staff operating in 32 countries. Opportunity grew from 375,000 clients to 1.5 million active clients with revenue growing at a compound annual rate of 30% during Crane’s tenure.
Crane acquired COMPS InfoSystems, Inc. in San Diego in 1992 and served as its President and CEO until he sold the company in February 2000. Under Crane’s leadership, COMPS grew from a small, print-based publishing firm with coverage of commercial real estate sale information in four western states into an electronic database publisher with 420 employees and coverage of the 50 top real estate markets nationwide. During his eight-year tenure, Crane oversaw the acquisition of 13 companies. He raised two rounds of venture capital and listed the company public in an initial public offering (IPO).
In 1999 Crane was awarded the Ernst & Young/USA Today Entrepreneur of the Year Award in San Diego and, in 2009, the Bob Buford Half/Time Achievement Award. He earned an MBA from Harvard Business School.
He was a member of the Young Presidents’ Organization (YPO) from 1990 to 2002, at which time he joined WPO. He has been married to Jane for 27 years, and they have one son, Andrew.
